The Girl and her Pup…by Bhim Pandya
I was just a pup when she found me
In a fragile corner of the world
Happy and free
I was just a pup when she found me
I would run to her wagging my tail and going woof woof
A sunny day here
A Sunday there
She would take me on walks
Bring me treats
She would throw me a bone
I would run and flee
She would chase after me
I would woof after her
Wagging my tail, going woof woof
Up the hill and down
She would bring me these costumes
Dress me up
We would go for treats
When she would say my name
I would run to her wagging my tail
Going woof woof
Then there came a time she had to go
Far far away…
I would think of the walks, the treats, and the dress ups
And the Sundays
The sunny days
I would wait for her to call me
So that I can wag my tail and go woof woof
Now my woof woof is a bark bark
That I occasionally sing in melancholy
Imagining the walks gone by
The treats devoured
The bone chases buried
She keeps me in a doghouse
Occasionally taking me on walks
I would bark just to have her talk to me
I am just a dog in a doghouse
Kept aside
Summoned when needed
A benchwarmer
No more of that…
I make a plan
I bark like never before
She comes to open the cage
Gives me a treat
I wag my tail
I go woof woof
As she takes out the leash
I run
She chases
She keeps chasing
Until she is out of breath
She starts to cry
I turn around
Unable to bear the pain
Wagging my tail and going woof woof
She hugs me
A sunny Sunday
Back at the hill
A bone unburied
Loyalty realized
I have no clue as to how this poem came to me. I just felt like writing about a pup and a girl. Now that I am reading it, I can say this poem maybe interpreted in anyway one pleases. I can simply mess with the audiences and say, that it is based on a true story and that it is not really about a dog and a little girl. Or maybe it is literally about a dog and a little girl. HAHAHA! Happy Holidays.
